Larry Knapp (BigLars) did tutorials on all of the gear replacements.   See the Shay one here:http://www.bachmanntrains.com/home-usa/board/index.php/topic,24292.0.html

read this over and you will find it is a really easy job and does NOT require any gear press.

One of my Shay locos started to slip again today, first thought was a faulty replacement drive shaft that I replaced some time ago,but I was wrong. The screws that hold the side frames onto the the truck frames had loosened ,allowing the frames to move slightly outwards, allowing the beveled gears not to mesh.Fixed the problem by squeezing the two side frames together and re adjust the screws.I have posted this problem and fix ,just in case you suffer the same problem...cheers Peter. Cool

Could I get an idea of how long it takes the replacement gears to ship?  I called the parts department about three weeks ago to request them. Just wondering...
