Title: On 30 Two Truck Shay
Post by: monadnock on December 06, 2009, 07:44:55 PM
Hello, I own a On 30 Two Truck Shay Locomotive (Little River Logging Co.) I have it connected to a Tech 4 MRC280 controller (output 14.5 VDC).  My problem is that the locomotive has very little speed, I have cleaned the tracks and oiled the locomotive, but no luck.  Does this engine require more voltage in order to produce any speed.

Thank You :)

The On30 Shay just as it's full scale relatives are geared for pulling not speed.
The voltage is fine.

At 10-12mph most Shays are pretty much flat out.

If you want a 'Hiawatha', go buy a 'Hiawatha'.

You have exactly the same power unit as I do to run my test track roller set-up - it's perfect for any loco I have and that includes the AccuCraft K-27.  It easily handles a little geared loco like the Shay, Climax or whatever.  Right now, it's powering a Spectrum LARGE-SCALE three-truck Shay.
