Title: on30 high side gondola
Post by: fredrick on January 17, 2011, 12:23:37 PM
Is the load removable?  I would like an empty car.

It is removable! Just that easy: Turn it upside down and let the coal load slide out.
Did you know that you can use the load on a low side gondola too? Paint it in a approbiate ballast colour of your choice and there you go!

Have fun!

Not only is the load removable and can be used in the low side gon too (though you may need to trim the pins that keep the load from resting on the floor), the sides and ends are removable too. This made it a lot easier for me when I had to repaint a black one to freight car red, and it makes applying the decal easier as well. Oddly enough, my unlettered low side gon sides are not removable, but appear to be glued on, or perhaps they were assembled before the paint was cured and it acted like glue.

Regards,
Bill

There´s another awesome thing I forgot to mention: You can easily cut down the boards to a mid-height or whatever -Gondola. I did make a batch of work Gons D&RGW style for me....  It´s easy!
