Title: Where to buy EZ Track???
Post by: daxdog on January 18, 2011, 07:31:14 PM
I have been looking for the best deals to buy EZ track because I am about to buy a ton of it.  I am new to this hobby and don't know all the players.  I found a good deal for the pieces I am looking for at www.trainsetsonly.com.  Are they a reputable dealer?  I hate to give an online company hundreds of dollars without knowing if they are a legit company or not.

Thanks for your help.

Hey daxdog! You can buy from trainsetsonly.com with confidence. I just ordered some stuff from them through Amazon.
Also check out modeltrainstuff.com. Not sure how they compare on track like the EZ, but they have pretty good prices on other
equipment. Also. I saw several listings on Ebay for large quantities of EZ track. I think they were to bid on. You might give it a look.
There are others of course, as I'm sure you are aware.

Here's a second on 'thefavoritespot.'  I have purchased quite a bit from them through eBay and they have always been very good both on price and delivery.  Check out their listings; some of the stuff is not for bid, but is Buy It Now.

Hobbylinc and Blue Ridge Hobbies are excellent sources for EZ-Track.

It sounds like you are planning a large layout.  If you haven't laid it out yet, check out the anyrails.com site.  It's great for planning a layout using virtually any kind of manufacturer's track of any scale and is very simple to use.

You may want to consider my experience before you spend your money.

First, EZ-track mounted on either plywood or particle board is incredibly noisy.  The roadbed is hollow plastic and it amplifies the noise made by the trains.  The difference in the noise between a track with a hollow plastic roadbed and cork roadbed is like night and day.  Second, you might want to read several of the large number on posts on this site about model railroaders (including myself) experiencing derailment problems with EZ-track turnouts.

I am in the process of replacing all of my EZ-track on my large layout with Atlas track and cork roadbed.  I am not going to condemn EZ-track, but I strongly feel that if you are planning a simple layout, then EZ-track is fine.  If you are planning  a large and complex permanent layout...one with several turnouts... I do not believe that EZ-track is the best candidate for that.

The type of track and roadbed that you use on a large complex layout is perhaps your most important decision.  Do it right the first time or you may find yourself doing it over after becoming really frustrated like I did.

In the end, it's your decision and I wish you the best.
