Title: 4-6-0 Ten Wheeler
Post by: Matt on November 22, 2011, 04:20:28 PM
I was at a train show this past weekend and saw the 4-6-0 Ten Wheeler in Santa Fe and UP. They looked great and I am considering purchasing one. Has anyone got one of these yet and any reviews or comments?

Thanks.

Matt

Hi All! Does the new 10 wheeler 4-6-0 have a visible flywheel in the cab, like the Pacific & Berkshire? steamer51

Thank you 3rail very much. I spoke with two dealers that told me they didn't know, because the "boxes are sealed". >:( As a dealer, I'd want to know. Do you, or anyone, know if they have plans for a B&O version? If not, I'll have to get the Santa Fe and re-letter it for the B&O.  ;D

I'm looking at one and giving thought to getting a Santa Fe engine and relettering it for the Virginia & Truckee. It might not look exactly like a V&T engine, but it would be close enough for me. The V&T bought three Baldwin ten-wheelers shortly after 1900, and one was still running in the road's last week of operation.

I bought a 4-6-0 in the AT&SF paint scheme last night. I'm looking forward to its arrival. This will be my first Williams-by-Bachmann engine. Heretofore, all my O-gauge engines have been Lionels.

one would guess that if the first round paint schemes sell well, they'll add additional roadnames at some point.  I'm with you.  rather have Baltimore & Ohio.

I am always surprised when manufacturers of steam locomotives insist on coal tenders. The top of the tender should be removeable so an oil twender top can be inserted. Also, my O gauge train buddies and I agree that the ten-wheeler's tender is too big!!!!

Maybe the railroad replaced it's original tender with a larger one at some point when the engine was backshopped.  ;)

Not an uncommon occurrence, I understand.

(Maybe it's the size it is to accommodate whatever is inside it.)
