How do you post pictures on here.

To post a .jpg or a .gif, just click on the picture icon (second row, second button where it says Add BBC tags:.  Then insert the URL for the .jpg or .gif between the ] and the [, that is, where the cursor automatically appears.  If it is your own photograph, then you have to have it uploaded to a website somewhere for it to have a URL.  If you do not own the copyright to the photograph, then you must obtain permission of the copyright holder.  And if it is uploaded onto someone else's website, then you have to have the website owner's permission as well.

Thanks for that Jim,

I'm going to try a test again, just to get used to the new buttons.

I now declare myself computer idiot for the ages.   Even with your fine directions Jim,  all I come up with is the annoying red x.   I went to www.rrpicturearchives.net and to my albums there and tried to use one of those pix.  Still the red x.....so I give up.

Bob,
it looks like you are trying to post the *webpage* the photo is on, rather than the actual photo itself..

for example, you have a collection of photos, seen here:

http://ebtbob.rrpicturearchives.net/ (http://ebtbob.rrpicturearchives.net/)

within that main collection are sub-albums, like this:

http://ebtbob.rrpicturearchives.net/archivethumbs.aspx?id=19557 (http://ebtbob.rrpicturearchives.net/archivethumbs.aspx?id=19557)

within those sub-albums are individual photos, like this:

http://ebtbob.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=639905 (http://ebtbob.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=639905)

even though that last link only contains one photo, that link is NOT the actual URL of the individual photo itself!
it is only the link to an individual page that happens to contain that photo..

All the links above are links to *webpages*...not links to actual photos.

to get the URL (or "address") of the actual photo, you have to Right-clik on the photo, choose "properties", then you can copy the actual photo URL, which happens to be:

http://ebtbob.rrpicturearchives.net/pictures/19557/Curved%20Trestle%20-%20SVMRRC.jpg (http://ebtbob.rrpicturearchives.net/pictures/19557/Curved%20Trestle%20-%20SVMRRC.jpg)
notice the link ends in .jpg
that means "jpeg" and that tells you you have the address for a photo.
(common image extensions are .jpg .jpeg .gif .bmp and a few others)

You can also tell you have the actual image URL if that link opens to NOTHING except the photo..just the image itself, no other junk..

Now..if you take that address and put it in the IMG tags..we should get:

;D

Thanks Scot for a great, very helpful review of photo posting! I had trouble learning how until someone kindly took the time you did with Bob to carefully explain the whole procedure.

Your post ought to be saved somehow on the forum for 'education reference' :-)

Bob, that is a beautiful job of scenery and an awesome trestle. Very, very nice work!

make an account on www.photobucket.com (its free!)
and upload the photo from your computer to your photobucket account,
then use the photobucket link to post the photo into the forum.

Here is another try.   I have read Jim's instructions and also Scots.   I have done the right click on the properties and checked,  the link I copied ends in jgp and will only take you to the actual picture.   Hopefully you will see a pic of my Bachmann On30 mogul on the On30 module I built three years ago.

that time you forgot the "/" before the second "img" inside the "[]"

Kevin,

Thanks,   I deliberately removed it because I thought I remembered someone telling me to do so.
To Scot,  I think it was you,  who mentioned how nice the curved trestle and the scenery is in that one pic of mine.   That is a part of a local model railroad club in the Philadelphia area and not mine though I wish it was.

HOLY COW I DID IT!!!   Thanks a lot to Jim,  Scot,  and Kevin.   Now you guys will be sorry.   I may have to post,  say,  100 pix to catch up with the rest of ya.........just kidding.
Truefully,  this has been driving me crazy as I have had any number of things over the years that I wanted to share and now I can.
