Title: Bachmann Silver Series HO 13505 1860-1880 Combine Car,
Post by: Ricocha on April 30, 2015, 05:46:00 PM
I'm interested in purchasing a Bachmann 1860-1880 combine car for my HO scale Bachmann Spectrum 4-4-0 Richmond Modern locomotive. Can someone please give me the length of the car and in your opinion, is it light enough for the 4-4-0 to pull up a 1.5% grade? :)

I think the combine is a 50' car.  That car is a literal Phoenix, it's been offered by several manufacturers before.  I have a beat up one from the days of yore that I'm going to put a cupola on to make a "long caboose" something like the Cotton Belt had.

I have 8 of those modern 4-4-0 s and for some reason they are real Titans, they will do 8 or 9 freight cars up a stiff 2 1/2 percent grade and 12 or more on level ground. Pulling power is not an issue with them on my layout.

The car length is about 165mm including the end platforms and excluding the couplers.  Weight is 3.5oz.

My thanks and appreciation to both of you. That information was exactly what I needed and makes my decision easy.
