Title: Digitraxx Sound Decoder
Post by: TigerMaster on August 29, 2016, 12:59:54 PM
I installed a Digitraxx Sound decoder in my Mikado, I set the CV for the sound to 65(max) and it is not very loud. I cannot hear the whistle as a go around the track. Are Digitraxx Sound Decoder just not loud or is the something I can do to make it louder?

Assuming you located the speaker in the tender, did you enclose it in a speaker box and have you drilled holes in the tender to let the sound out?

Yes it is in the tender. I did not put it in a box or drill holes. Tho I have thought about drilling holes.
What would putting the speaker in box do?

Tiger, speakers need a 'sound box' to prevent the sound from bouncing around in the tender and to make it one directional...out the bottom of the tender.  And yes, you definitely need the holes in the bottom of the tender.
The box can be anything that fully encloses the back of the speaker...styrene is a good choice to make your box from.

Thank you for the info. I will put the speaker in a box and drill holes.
