Title: Major Problem with NEW Bachmann Smoker Chattanooga HO 0-6-0
Post by: dchampney on December 18, 2016, 05:42:45 PM
I have had this train for a couple weeks and the smoke stack is melting.  We always use fluid when running this train!  What the heck?

I always remove the smoke units from these steamers. they are not worth the aggravation and problems  for the tiny wisps of unrealistic smoke that come out.

I mean this is fast.  It is just a Christmas Tree train.  Already it is melted!

That's the problem with putting a hot smoke unit in a plastic shell.

If you really want smoke, find an old American Flyer die-cast HO loco at a train show or eBay. No melting, and the piston type smoke unit makes a nice 'chuff-chuff' sound as it runs.

I guess I will take the set back!

Do you have any examples of the loco you are referring?

It's not only this brand.
A train-friend of mine had a total meltdown of the complete smokebox from a BLI cabforward.
The replacement did exactly the same.

Here's one example: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-American-Flyer-Engine-443-With-New-York-Central-Coal-Tender-Ho-Gauge-/112241366340?hash=item1a221b5544%3Ag%3AiiwAAOSw-0xYVxKl (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-American-Flyer-Engine-443-With-New-York-Central-Coal-Tender-Ho-Gauge-/112241366340?hash=item1a221b5544%3Ag%3AiiwAAOSw-0xYVxKl)

Google is your friend on this. Key words: American Flyer HO Hudson

AF also did an 0-6-0 that smokes and runs fairly well, just a bit harder to find than the Hudsons.
