Title: Can Bachmann DCC locos be programmed on the main?

Can Bachmann DCC locos be programmed on the main? Or do they need to go on a programming track in Service Mode?

I always use 'on the main' mode to program my locos.  (Most have Bachmann decoders)

But to be safe I connect my controller to a dedicated track on my workbench for programming/testing, or remove the other locomotives from the layout before entering programming mode.
