Title: 70 tonner paint removal
Post by: coalsootkid on October 17, 2017, 07:36:43 PM
Hello Everyone
For the past few months, I've been wanting to repaint my Bachmann 70 tonner but I can't figure out how to strip off the red paint. I've tried 99% isopropyl alcohol but it only caused the paint to crack and flake off on a corner and didn't come off nearly as easy as acrylic paint. I then tried Easyoff Oven cleaner. It worked great on some other models I have but didn't seem to do anything to the 70 tonner. The only options I haven't tried yet are denatured alcohol or PineSol. I am aware the plastic itself is red but I would like to get all the paint off before adding more paint layers. Does anyone know the type of paint Bachmann uses and how to safely strip it without harming the plastic?
Thank you

Some use automotive brake fluid.

I've heard of using that but I've also heard the newer stuff can eat or soften the plastic as well. Do you have a specific type and brand you use?
Thanks

Dear Coal.
I use the ScaleCote paint remover, which is now available from:
