Title: Clear top coat
Post by: RAILSPLITTER on November 05, 2017, 11:30:40 AM
I have a few sound value locomotives and noticed the decals flaking off with normal handling like they have no top coat to seal them to the paint obviously. Bachmann replaced a few shells for me ,but the replacements are doing the same thing.
Can Bachmann recommend a compatible clear to coat that will not bubble up and react with the paint used on the models so that can fix it right without replacing the shells with just the same problem??

They are not a decal but are printed on in the factory.
The text is screen printed on a silicone transfer block and then pressed against the object.

Dear Railsplitter,
Dust on a couple of light coats of Testor's semi-gloss.
Have fun!

Dear Split,
I regularly use three Testor's sprays: Dullcote, Semi-gloss, and Glosscote.
If you dust the spray on the model you'll have no problem.
Have fun!

Testors makes a semi gloss lacquer and enamel . Can you tell me what of the 2 I could use safely without reaction.  Thanks in advance!

Jon

Although they say Lacquer and Enamel system on the can.......Rustoleum claims the formula is the same in both. I had this discussion with them about two years ago regarding their gloss coat. Even their Decal System Clear Topcoat is the same formula as any of their gloss clears. The same holds true for the flats and semi-gloss.

Only exception to this is their line of water based Acryl paints.
