Title: Soundtraxx DCC in Bachmann Locos When for the Bachmann
Post by: RAILSPLITTER on December 23, 2017, 11:35:11 AM
Hay Bachmann ,
Abird told me that Bachmann is going to use Soundtraxx DCC in the Dcc onboard equipped locos . Is this going to happen in 2018, or has it already happened with the latest releases in 2017?

Thanks,
Jon

You're probably thinking about the 'SoundValue Enhanced' announcement regarding SoundTraxx's "Econami" decoders:

No ,I was told that the ancient  Lenz decoders that are in all Bachmann dcc onboard locos will be replaced with Soundtraxx dcc decoders without sound also.

I thought some were also made at the Amherst show and/or the WGH tour.

To clarify - The catalog that is released at Toy Fair in New York contains items that were announced at the previous NMRA convention as well as new sets and Thomas items. Almost all new scale model railroad items are normally announced at the annual NMRA convention that takes place in July.

Will there ever be such a thing as a Spectrum Diesel in HO scale ever?

Actually, there have been Spectrum Diesels in the past: 44 tonner, baby trainmaster, a GeeP, etc. Acela is a Spectrum (electric). I seem to recall an FP40 being Spectrum, with flashing strobe... ooh the 45 tonner is Spectrum.

I know. These are almost all out of production now. But certain shopping websites still offer these babies up on a regular basis.

Regards,

Jonathan

Don't forget the original HO dual motor EMD DD40AX was also a Spectrum unit. It was also a 16 wheel drive beast that could pull 120 car train on level track with no wheel slippage at start up.

True ,but those are all old tooled Spectrums from the 90's come on!  I am talking about all the new tooled Spectrum Diesel! Bachmann has done a lot of great standard line new tooled diesels this century but not a Spectum in 30 years. The closest thing is the Norfolk Southern heritage diesels. They probably could of been in the Spectrum range if they just put separately applied details and some etched see through grills and steps and all that. I see why they didn't since everyone else did and it is a great option . But JUST 1 real new tooled Spectrum diesel just to see how far they have come since the last time they actually made one last Century!

Why stop there? It's been a whole millennium since the last Spectrum diesel came out! :p

Jon - There are a bunch of club members around here, including myself, that would make the "SOLD OUT" signs appear real quick if Bachmann reissued the two motor DD40AX. Even with the old tooling.

They are still available. Maybe Bachmann should bring back the all wheel electrical pickup instead of downgrading to only 4 wheels per truck when they are putting sound in them that is just plain dumb. The original Spectrum dda40x has 16 wheel electrical with good bronze wipers. The new has 4 wheel brass pickups per truck that can be cut to make them all pick up ,but why ???Is this a real example of improvement???This is why many that just run DC OR DCC with the ancient buzz and grind decoder they come with say they are not very good at all. The bad pickup, bad decoder loss of weight taken out of the fuel tank for the sound version compared to the older dc Spectrum version. Admit it has better paint, but with the resources Bachmann has they could of done a much better job to improve it rather then just the looks trade-off cost for performance from cutting electrical pick ups. What ever design engineer boss made that decision should flip burgers ;D
