Title: Soundtraxx Econami 881003 ECO-21P versus 881006 ECO-21PNEM
Post by: mrpp on January 17, 2018, 04:28:06 PM
Hi All

Newbie here. I bought a Bachmann Climax to run DC and bought the one with the dummy sound board with the intention of buying a cheap Econami sound board here in the UK.
Wanted to keep the cost (including tax) down for initial purchase from the US. Saved myself £180 buying the equivalent locally.

I can get a 881003 ECO-21P for around £60 which is available ex-stock, or order a 881006 ECO-21PNEM for £85-£90 but ordered in specifically via another seller.

What is the difference between the two Soundtraxx boards - specs appear the same - as I don't want to waste cash on a silly mistake.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Not sure what the difference is. You may want to contact SoundTraxx on this...

MRPP, I bought my Soundtraxx DCC decoders from Bachmann Parts Dept:

http://estore.bachmanntrains.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=66_698&products_id=10473

I've purchased these decoders for my 3 Climax locos, my 2 Forneys and my 3 K-27s.

They drop right in.

I hope this info is of value.

the one with the NEM suffix matches the 21 pin NEM socket.

It's possible the non-nem one has wires or solder pads, not sure it's available from soundtrax, but may be an oem product.

R J and Greg

Thank you for the guidance.

I believe the non NEM board is also 21 pin, and will plug in where the dummy board engages.

I just don't know what NEM actually is.

A local stockist in the UK (Digitrains) have advised that the non NEM will fit - I just want to make sure that it will work once fitted.

I e-mailed Soundtraxx on their support@soundtraxx.com e-mail address about the difference yesterday as per Yardmaster's advise but have yet to receive a reply.

Regards
Mike

An NEM DCC 21 pin decoder will plug into the Bachmann Peter Witt Streetcar.

It will NOT! plug into the socket of a Large Scale Bachmann Spectrum locomotive such as the one in the Climax.

Further.  These decoders are typically 1 amp decoders which have too low a current to power these locomotives.

A Large Scale 3+ amp decoder will work,  Either a plug in one or use the wire harness to connect to one that has screw terminals.

Hope that helps

Stan

All

Thanks for the help.

Stan - you are correct.

George from Soundtraxx has replied to my e-mail and has given me some great advice that I need to check before purchasing anything.

I'm glad I asked and was given great guidance on how to go about this.

That combined with RJ's recommendation should get me over then line.
Once I've sorted everything, I'll update on here.

regards

Mike
