Title: 2-4-2 Loco 91114 Pensy Smoke
Post by: granpab on February 16, 2009, 12:22:10 PM
I read, on another thread, that this loco is less than Bachmann's Best - just after I bought one new (old stock).  I am very happy with its looks.

Before its initial test run, I tried to make sure the smoke unit was turned off.  But . . . the switch is not marked off-on.   To turn the smoke unit off -- do I move the switch toward the smoke-box-hatch hinges?

Thanks for the help!

PS - regarding the tender wheels -- this one has plastic (which I want to switch to metal)

Dear Grandpab,

Disconnect the power pack from the track and hook up an ohm-meter, one probe on one rail, the other probe on the other rail, meter range set to lowest setting.

With the engine on the track, read the resistance, which should be about 10 ohms.

Turning the smoker on should cause the resistance to drop about 1 ohm.

Turning the smoker off should cause the resistance to increase about 1 ohm.

Mark the switch.

Let us know if it works.  More advice if it doesn't.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Joe Satnik

Thanks Joe.  Sometimes I miss the obvious - until some tells me!
