31  Discussion Boards / HO / Re: Onboard DCC decoders on: April 22, 2018, 02:10:57 PM
The product description in the Bachmann Trains Web Store for the HO SD40-2, DCC ON BOARD marked with New Product COMING SOON contains, "you can digitally control speed, lighting, and direction."

This indicates the factory installed decoder has same CVs as the Bachmann E-Z Command Two Function decoder.

Click Here List of supported CVs on sheet two. Note CV 19 is supported but related CVs you may excepted to find for consisting and speed matching are not supported.

32  Discussion Boards / General Discussion / Re: PR4 /JMRI question? on: April 19, 2018, 11:10:49 PM
Jon,
Using Digitrax PR4 as a stand-alone programmer,
Short answer - depends
on the information in the decoder JMRI can use to indentify it
 JMRI configuration file accuracy
PR4 cannot read or program some decoders

Click Here for an Electronics and DCC forum with a few contributors that will reword the JMRI DecoderPro and Digitrax PR4 product instructions  for specific questions based on their experience with the products.

33  Discussion Boards / HO / Re: dcc on board vs. sound value on: April 17, 2018, 09:59:03 PM
. . .

I believe that this is because the Bachmann non-sound decoders have a lower top speed  setting (CV5), but I'm not sure how to adjust it -- I get readings for the CV5 of around 100, but I try to reset it to 255, for whatever reasonm it doesn't seem to take.

. . .

CV 5 cannot be programmed by design.

To date a  Bachmann HO DCC On Board locomotive is factory equipped with a  Bachmann manufactured two-function decoder that does not  support CV 5 or CV6.

Click Here f -  List of supported CVs are on second sheet. Also, note the CVs default setting.

Use 28 not 128 speed step mode when speed matching.

Verify need for resistors and the specs of all lighting used with Bachmann Service Dept.

Found some of my old notes for All-Door Box Car,

http://southernmodeler.info/SRrollingstock/SR_FRT_CAR_DGMS_1962.pdf

scroll to 33-F-18
Prototype: Note this is Southern Railway drawing with builder being Pullman

Southern used the car mostly for lumber

Current Bachmann model
Southern Pacific #51188 - Evans All-Door Box Car
http://shop.bachmanntrains.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=258_324_327_353&products_id=4810

Based on this the Bachmann car builder is Evans Products not Pullman
I have not looked for info on that Builder's box cars or if Southern Pacific had/has All-Door type box car.

Looks like a Pullman-Standard All-Door boxcar.

Research Southern Pacific (5270-C)

Install 680 or 1000 Ohm resistor in the negative wire of each LED.

The SoundTraxx TSU-4400 decoder Function Common output  is rated at track voltage minus 1.5V.

38  Discussion Boards / Large / Re: Ground wire on: April 14, 2018, 04:07:54 PM
You are using SoundTraxx Tsunami2  TSU-4400 decoder? If so,  Ground terminal on decoder is not used.

Follow the Bachmann 1:20.3 Large Scale 55 Ton Three-Truck Shay.  DCC Wiring Connection sheet

  http://www.bachmanntrains.com/home-usa/dwg/dwgs/82494.pdf
Study and use the info in the WIRING CONNECTION table in lower lefthand corner of the sheet to locate each wire in the Shay.

Is it difficult to remove the whistle and shorten the stack?

Since you have to ask, you should not be attempting to do it.
40  Discussion Boards / N / Re: Dcc on: April 13, 2018, 05:35:31 PM
A DCC decoder can be added. However, I will not be the one to tell you all that is required. Even if you have the basic skills, the quality of motor, gears and fidelity to scale of that locomotive was not very good even when it was new.

Although the locomotive may have sentimental value  ---- Suggest  you do some online shopping for best cost and select a current production (or soon to be released)  N scale diesel model with factory installed DCC or depending on the DCC system you have, a locomotive with DCC sound.

Installing a DCC decoder without sound  can be done without using tender.

Thus without Modify for corrections I use the Quote feature as follows,

Thanks Roger T.

I am aware of and know how to use all the features of the Simple Machines Forum (SMF)  software used by Bachmann for this forum. What you are unaware of is I do not have acceess access to a few of the features you and others do, which includes the Modify feature.

There is an option to edit your post if you make an error.  Like I have just done to add:- It's called "Modify" in the top right hand corner of your post.  Smiley

The locomotive comes from Bachmann factory without a decoder installed.

If your locomotive has a decoder installed  -- replace it.

Can you run and change speed of locomotive using address 3?

Can you turn on and off headlight using the HEADLIGHT button on the Power Cab?
