1  Discussion Boards / On30 / Re: Max Voltage on: May 05, 2018, 06:59:49 AM
I have found out the hard way that a number of American made and branded decoders do not like 18-20 volts at all, they are not meeting the NMRA standards. Many of them  have leaked smoke and stopped working. My system has 20 volts at the rails ,so as a precautionary move I now only use the better quality brands at a higher price(Tsunami,ESU and Soundtrax)The higher priced decoders give a much better sound and response in operation and don't smoke.........................Peter

I wouldn't be worried by the trees, what about the rust in the turntable deck(44 mins on the video).I can see the loco going onto the turntable and breaking the back of the deck. What could one say....OOOPPPPSSSS
5  Discussion Boards / On30 / Re: 0-4-0 Side Rod Gas Mechanical Binding on: February 13, 2018, 07:05:33 PM
To prove the problem, remove the side rods by removing the counter weights from the wheels that the rods are connected to. If the the loco runs ok then the problem is in the rod area. What I would do in that case is refit the rods and counter weights making sure the rods (a 1/4 of a turn difference)are parallel to each other.Wear in the rods won't be a problem as the two sets of wheels are driven by the gears.  Hope this helps .....................................................................Peter

12  Discussion Boards / On30 / Re: On30 Railbus and Trailer plug and socket on: October 29, 2017, 02:08:48 AM
Peter,I have what I consider a standard JST connector, and they do not fit the Bachmann bus trailer connectors. They are very close in size but would not fit either way of the connectors. The size of the JST socket is very close to the Bachmann,so you may be able to fit a JST socket to replace the Bachmann socket. The only problem I could see,is the cable on the JST connector is slightly heavier than the Bachmann,so flexibility of the wires may be an issue going around corners.......Peter
13  Discussion Boards / On30 / Re: climax led replacement on: October 26, 2017, 08:34:57 PM
As Scott says it should be straight forward,I have changed a number of LED lights in locos. Some of my climaxes were easy but a couple(as per Tons comment) were indeed very hard to change.I ended up removing the head light ,drilling out the lenz, replacing the LED and making up a new lenz with clear plastic card and refitting the head light. Some care is required but it is possible to do,give it a go,if it doesn't work out buy a replacement head light,if it works ,well you have achieved some  satisfaction and learned a new skill. Wink........................Peter.
