2  Discussion Boards / HO / Livery suggestions for the Bachmann on: March 26, 2016, 10:34:34 AM
In the past years Bachmann released some nice examples of Western Maryland rolling stock in speed lettering.
What about some additions? What I would like:
Sound value models of FA2, GP7, GP9, S2, S4 - the tooling is there, just some paint needed...... Grin
Please re-release the 40´boxcar and the 55ton hopper in WM speed lettering.

And the nice model of the Northeast caboose sure would look great in the WM circus paint scheme as would a sound value GP35 and the F7.

Now that Bachmann has a nice range of 52ft Flat Car w/ 35ft Trailer, wouldn`t it be great to have a rerun of the Plasticville No. 2920 piggyback trailer terminal?

Thanks for the link, watched the video  with great interest. Imho a great presentation, there is a lot of truth in what he said about model railways and children. I usally go to fairs about photo equipment and often see boring presentations by unenthusistic staff.
Good to see that a company producing stuff for enthusiasts is run by enthusiasts.

one issue that nobody has mentioned is that the zephyr requires you to use a 1000 ohm resistor across the rails of the programming track to reprogram Bachmann decoders. try this and see if you can program your locomotive.

I use a Digitrax Zephyr DCS51 without a resistor across the rails of the programming track and it works fine to program my Bachmann sound value locos. I use paged mode and it works fine with the sound value mogul, F7, RS3, GP7, S2
I usually do not use programming on the main (OPS) but just had a try and it too works without any additional devices.

The day looks brighter now as I got message from the parts team that they will send me the rigth shell  - I am happy that the right one still was in stock.
Big thumbs up for the Bachmann parts team, lightning fast and very friendly response to my email!

More than 90% of my rolling stock is from Bachmann and with this support I intend to keep it that way.

8  Discussion Boards / HO / Locos to expand the trainset on: October 15, 2015, 01:33:43 PM
I have the Thunder Chief trainset with a sound value equipped Santa Fe F7 in the blue freight livery, a very nice loco.

It would be great if Bachmann could offer sound value F7A and F7B in the same livery,  to make F7A-B or F7A-B-A consists.

Today I have received my parcel with spare parts I have ordered, Two Santa Fe shells, one FT-A and one FT-B. As shipping to Austria costs more than $ 30 I ordered both shells at the same time, a fuel tank cover and a geared wheel.  Big mistake! As the total cost of these parts was $ 33.60, the parcel did not go through customs unchecked. I had to pay $ 36 import duty (including service charge)  Angry

The invoice showed  H118X-00A01-SF-SR Body Shell - Santa Fe (Silver&Red - Black Vent) (HO: FT-B) that was the item I have ordered. But I received a F7B body shell that is useless for me!  Sad
I paid $ 15 for the shell, $ 33,60 for shipping and $ 36 import duty. I hope the Bachmann parts team will advise me how to arrange for replacement without paying import duty again and I hope the cost of shipping the wrong shell back to Bachmann will be reimpursed.
I really wished American model railroading  would be more popular here in Austria/Europe making more local purchases possible as the cost of shipping and customs duty would be better spent on more rolling stock!

Austrian
masking and painting really isn't that difficult,. heres my new Bachmann EM1 that I like you felt the oxide red roof and tender deck would make for a better looking model.
Took aut an hour including masking.i will admit to using my preferred method of using an air brush for better control.still note the OOPS on the trailing truck, since rectified lol

The beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I really like your photo. Looks great!

You can't please all the people all of the time....

No of course you can`t. And my opinions are not meant as criticism. It is a matter of taste. For a similar amount of money I can buy a PRR 2-8-2. What make a loco a Pennsy loco for me is the use of a Belpaire firebox and the red cab roof and tender deck. As USRA design this loco does not feature a Belpaire fireboxe so the red would help it give it a Pennsy identity. As some Bachmann Pennsy locos feature the red (K4, Mogul) I hoped that the 2-8-2 would have it, too. Most of my locos are from Bachmann as I needed spare parts and advice more than once and Bachmann always provided better service as other companies. So having the choice I always have a bias for Bachmann products.
I would buy a 2-8-2 in Santa Fe without a hint of reed on it!  Grin

Austrian;
Check your laws again.  If that were the case, Micro-Mark, et al, wouldn't be advertising them.  As far as painting the deck on a tender and the roof-hey; this isn't rocket science.  Just do it, and save yourself a lot of  trouble.

Rich C.

Why should I check the laws again - There is no law in Austria prohibiting it. It is what I was told when I mail ordered paint from UK from the 2 shops I order Bachmann items. They send me all, track, locos ,......  except the paint and told that they are not allowed to ship paint. If I order just paint from another source I pay the same shipping flate rate for some tin cans of paint as I pay to ship loco, boxcars and paint.

I have a job, a family with children and photography as main hobby. I like model railways but have not a lot of spare time for this hobby. I have a layout to finish, track, landscape, point motors, buildings,...
AND: building rolling stock is not my favorite part of  the hobby. What I enjoy is writing switch lists and running the trains alone or with interested visitors.

The loco will cost me $ 340 - I prefer not to mess around at this price point as I was not even sucessfull in ordering some paint in railway shades as shipping of paint is considered to dangerous nowadays and refused.
After all there is available a 2-8-2 PRR from another producer that is painted to my taste and I can buy it for similar money.

Bachmann made the truckframes, all my items are from the USA, the shop I order from gets all the stuff from the USA. I do not think Walthers has an export range of items.

Yardmaster, thanks for your fast response and advice!
I shortend the axles using a file and that did it. While still not as free running as the other axles the cars now run good enough.
Without your advice I would have hasitated to work with a file as the wheelsets are expensive to buy for me because of shipping cost (more than $ 33 incl. shipping).

What is the right coupler for the 40`boxcars and stockcars?
Is it the E-Z MateŽ Mark II Center Shank - Medium?
Just checked the webstore but not sure whether I understand the price as the Economy pack seems great value for money but one pair of the E-Z MateŽ Mark II Center Shank - Medium -  costs 30 $ ? Really?
E- Z MateŽ Mark II Center Shank - Medium Economy Pack (25 pair) 50 $ ?
