Yes.

As I recall you want to program CV 33 to 1 and CV 34 to 2.

The default for both is 3, which activates front and rear together.

17  Discussion Boards / On30 / Can we have a run of 0-4-0 Sound Porters with square headlights? on: November 09, 2017, 03:08:21 PM
In the past I've had to swap the cab and footplate to get the look I wanted, and that left extra wiring to deal with.

Now that I'm upgrading my roster to sound models, I'd like to request a run with the headlights from the 0-4-2 Porter models swapped in please.
18  Discussion Boards / On30 / Do the latest run of 2-6-6-2s support the 2-4-4-2 sound module? on: November 05, 2017, 04:04:48 PM
I just ordered a 12-driver articulated, and looking at the exploded view diagram the tender appears to have a speaker installed and the 21-pin interface.

If it doesn't support the module, would I be able to swap the tender for a 2-4-4-2's without modifying the wiring harness and get sound that way?

Well that's still good news to me.

Perhaps the capacitor's wires could be connected to the component that converts DCC to DC like this Heisler board?

When looking at the exploded view diagrams, I see a component called "E. CAP" under the water tank.

My non-sound Porters don't seem to have a keep alive pre-installed, is this a feature I'd gain if I upgraded to a sound model?

Gap does not need to be as wide as Flare wrote he uses.

True, but I find it's easier to cut the I-beam to the proper length when I can eyeball the ties in the track, and the larger piece is easier to handle and maneuver into place than thin ones.

Yardmaster,
What is Bachmann Trains' recommended method to remove E-Z Track metal rail joiner?

Blow torch....

LOL!!!

My E-Z Track layout has two reverse loops.

I tried replacing the rail joiners with the plastic ones, but that resulted in ruined track for the most part.  (Those metal ones are REALLY on there)

What I found worked much better was cutting tie-length gaps in the rails with a razor saw, then filling the gap with styrene I-beams that are the same height as the rails.  (This prevents the rails from creeping back together over time)

You can paint the styrene sections silver with enamel-based paint to match the rails and super glue will hold them in place.

If you remove the board in the tender, you may find its wires are marked on the other side.

I don't have an articulated, but my other Bachmann On30 locos have been this way.

Ah, well I imagine it's simply out of stock;  I have two of their reverse loop controllers and they've run great for years.

I see some on Ebay too.

Perhaps you could test the loco and controller at a local hobby shop?

Have you checked all the connections for loose wires and shorts?

Do other locomotives respond from the same controller?

Have you tried the F7a with another controller?

The connector seems to be based on this NMRA 21MTC standard which has all the typical decoder wire colors, blue should be in there somewhere:

I've already made something smoke in there trying to find it with my multimeter, so I'm going to wait for a response from Bachmann.

I installed the Keep Alive using the two soldering points on the sound module, but only the audio is being kept alive.

There is a marked hole on the 21-pin connector that I've confirmed is ground, but I still have no clue which pin is 'positive'.  I've reached out to the service department hoping they can solve the mystery.

The internet probably has the best prices for one.

Bachmann's Dynamis, NCE's Power Cab, or Digitrax's Zephyr Xtra would be the three I'd consider.

If you plan to run your trains with a local club, ask them which system they use so you won't have to convert later.
