1  Discussion Boards / N / Re: What is the status of the new 2-8-0s with dcc and sound? on: November 21, 2017, 01:03:22 PM
Any update on the status of when these will be available?
I want to treat myself to one in December 2017. Wink

I noticed this 2-8-0 with dcc and sound is listed as reserve by an online retailer.  The notice
say December 2017 delivery.
Is this correct?
Thank you.
3  Discussion Boards / N / Re: Is there a new Class J 4-8-4 with dcc and sound forthcoming? on: July 27, 2017, 10:26:38 AM
I am seeing ads for J class locomotive in various scales and from various manufacturers.
For modelers in n-scale this is frustrating to be a "second thought" for manufacturers.
4  Discussion Boards / N / Re: will there be an n-scale J class in dual mode on: July 19, 2017, 04:13:52 PM
With the long history of this locomotive in n-scale why are there no plans for a dual mode version?

How about in the future?  Is a dual mode without sound planned?

I reposted this question.  Yardmaster never replied here.

Are there plans for producing the 611 J class locomotive with dual mode (dc/dcc)?

I like the design of this locomotive and have looked at photos of the dc model may times online.   I run dcc so if I were to opt for one now currently available, I would hire the installation of the dcc with sound.
I would also consider painting it and lettering it for Baltimore and Ohio.
I do not mind having "fantasy steam" on my home railroad.

PS: I recall that some manufacturers do announce that an n-scale version of an item is forthcoming when they announce the HO version. I though I might have missed that ad.

I was pleased to see a new Class J 4-8-4 in HO with dcc and sound is advertised in June 2017 MR page 7.
Is an n-scale version planned and when could be expect it to be available.
Thank you.
10  Discussion Boards / N / Re: Bachmann DMIR 2-8-0 video on: April 23, 2017, 07:10:14 AM
I am from Illinois, but transplanted to Minnesota in 1975 then uprooted in 2005 and replanted in Illinois.
I like the Bachmann Spectrum 2-8-0, thus I already watched this video on YouTube.
I have two of these 2-8-0s that I hired installation of dcc with sound.
They are two of my favorite locomotives and typical of the steam locomotives used by B&O on
the Beardstown to Shawneetown, Illinois branch line.

Seeing the familiar names of various towns in Minnesota brought back fond memories.
We passed through Spring Valley many times traveling from Rochester to Iowa.

I hope the new 2-8-0 with dcc and sound is available soon.

SpookShow, where is Hope in relation to Albert Lea?
11  Discussion Boards / N / Re: Better Solution for Track Nailing? on: February 20, 2017, 08:08:33 AM
Based on having an n-scale home railroad since 1975 and trying homasote, plywood and 2 inch extruded polystyrene as a base, about 2000,  I elected to use one of the brands of sectional track that comes with the roadbed attached. [Okay, so I know I am not answering directly about nailing the track.]

I found with the extruded foam, the track can be fixed in place with straight pins.  I find route of the right of way of my home railroad has always been dynamic.  I do not want to glue or nail track in place only to create extract effort and/or damaged track when I elect to make a change in the track location.  During those years my home railroad was moved several times and rebuilt; with the track with attached roadbed, I have been able to recycle the same track.  I have over 800 sections of the subject track based on an inventory I compiled when I packed it for our most recent move.

I suspect all too often model railroads tend to model other modelers railroad instead of a railroad.  I suspect they tend to follow the practices used in the past instead of exploring the newer methods.

12  Discussion Boards / N / Re: couplers (again) on: February 10, 2017, 06:18:52 PM
As early as 1973-74, I began buying Kadee n-scale boxcars. As you know these are now Micro-trains line.
I have changed couplers for two reasons:
1. to have the coupler compatible with the MTL coupler
2. to use smaller couplers such as the MTL Z-scale couplers
I have also used knuckle couplers that are compatible, but not magnetic.
I do not do much automatic uncoupling and coupling so those work fine for me.

Thank you for the update. I have been "lobbying" for this locomotive
to be offered because I have two of the dcc ready locomotives in which
I hired dcc with sound to be installed.  They are two of my favorite
locomotives.  Every one who viewed the YouTube videos of them
seemed interested in having one.   Grin

Yard master or whom ever, I am puzzled that no update has been announced elsewhere or in reply to my question.
Respectfully submitted.

Brokemoto et al.,
I also model B&O and have Bachmann steam locomotives.
I am very interested in the new 2-8-0 with dcc and sound that is forth-coming.
I hope to reletter a couple for B&O even though they many not be totally of the B&O style.
Delighted to they are coming.  Grin
