Look at QSI.  It's DCC and sound together.

Elwin,

I’m preparing to put the QSI Magnum in my Connie.  I currently have a Digitrax 583S in her.  The term DCC ready has several meanings from plug and go to the frame is not the ground.  If the frame were the ground as in much older engines, one would have to isolate the engine and such.  In the case of the Connie, the engine and other items are isolated from the OE board but that's about it.  However, after several attempts to make the 583S work with the OE board, I took the board out, read the wiring out and installed the 583S according to the manufacturer.  I did not hook up the smoke unit.

When I go to put the QSI in her I will use the screw on terminals to connect it.  The one problem is the ash pan and smoke box lights.  There is currently no way to make them flicker with the QSI decoder.  There is supposed to be a supplemental lighting board that plugs in to the QSI board for this purpose coming soon.  The only thing to do currently is to leave them unconnected or hard wire them in.

To give BM credit they did improve the ability to connect a decoder with each new engine.  I have the new shay and it could be wired right into the OE board and as you know the K-27 just plugs in

One of the tricks the smaller scale modelers use is to place undersized building, people etc in the background to give the illusion that the scene is further in the distance then it truly is.  Why can't it work for us?   But the more important things are, does it look right and are you having fun! Greg.

Does the QSI read the + chuff signal of the K-27 without any additional parts or modifications to the loco?

According to QSI, if the cuff needs adjustment it is done with their software.

The Garrett was made from two Big Haulers.

Jon,

Everyone might not want something as large and expensive as the Kay.  So we are stilling waiting.   Besides,  the designers must be in work on whatever is next.

The two stroker would be nice but BM has already produced 3 shays.

Mr. Bach Man,

Have we returned to the "who's name shall not be spoken" as far as future items?

There is a problem with the gearbox coming loose.  Has it been tightened up?  The procedure has been well documented here and on MylargeScale.com

The C-19 would be nice.  Something in between the Connie and Kay.

AristoCrft is coming out with an updated C-16 in 1:24 scale soon.  Though it would be nice in 1:20.3 to compliment the K-27, the market may not support both.

I would like to see an updated Climax or a Forney. Smiley  But with BM's policy of keeping new items a secret we may not know the next item to come out until it's almost ready. Lips Sealed
