Worn Down Gear

I posted this on the general discussion too.
I have an old AHM/Rivarosi 4-4-0, "Genoa" and the idler gear has worn down, and the locomotive will not move... Is this a part that can be bought and easily replaced? Or is there no way of getting it fixed. It does not feel like it is able to be removed. also, the plate that the screw goes into, in-between the wheels, looks like it has slipped down, maybe? It doesn't seem to want to come out, but there is nothing else to screw into.

Any help would be appreciated.

Do you mean that the screws or the holes that hold the bottom plate are stripped?  Did you get this new? if not maybe a previous owner stripped the holes out & glued the plate in.
Even if you do get the gear off, your only chance of a replacement is to find something from NWSL.  Luck...jerry
