I have a Spectrum (Bachmann) GP-30 that has run beautifully for years, I bought it in 1990. It quit a while back; give it power, the lights come on but it does not move. I have taken it apart, the motor and gears move freely and the wheels turn, but still nothing. I took it to the hobby shop and even when power is applied directly to the motor, it does not work.  Looks like I will need a new motor.

However, I have looked at the motor for the GP 30 available to buy on the web site, but the motor on this locomotive has flywheels on either side, the replacement motor looks like it has no provision for flywheels.  It also has wires where my current motor has brass tabs that contact the sides of the weight.  Will this replacement motor work in my 20 year old loco?

Dear Zars,
Probably not, but service will still be able to help. Give them a call- you'll be surprised at what they come up with!
Have fun!
