Help with steam locomotive

Just bought my son a 50615 steam locomotive.  We can't get steam to come out consistently.  No instructions were included.  We added about 4 drops to the smokestack and ran for a couple of minutes.  Got one big puff and a couple of small puffs.  Added 4 more drops of oil.  No additional puffs after running for about 5 minutes.

3 boys staring at the train waiting for steam.  Please help.

Dear Dan,
Give a gentle puff of breath down the stack. Four or five drops should give good results.

Boys are in bed, but the steam is working great.  Thanks so much.  Do you mind explaining why that helped so I'll know in the future?

i don't use steam locos but my guess is that the smoke stack wasn't pitched so the breath down the pipe just move the oil down to where it was needed in stead of just sitting above it
