A fellow club member wishes to dispose of his Spectrum 2-6-6-2, item # 82674.  With a dummy coupler fitted to the frontend; is it possible to replace with a working coupler, as is fitted on the tender, ( or similar).   Does Bachmann already manufacture a suitable coupler ??

Hi Peanuts,

I'm not familiar with the 2-6-6-2 in N scale, since I don't have one, but if the dummy coupler is attached with a small screw and is self-centering by means of two plastic spring fingers molded onto the shank of the coupler (similar to the HO EZ-Mates), then possibly one of the new Bachmann N scale magnetic knuckle couplers with the coiled metal knuckle spring may fit right in without modification. These new couplers are pretty grossly oversized, and are used on the N scale GE 70 tonner, EMD GP7, Alco RS3 and newer freight cars, but if you can overlook their size, they do seem to couple up with Micro-Trains N scale couplers.

The other option is to try and fit an MTL coupler to the pilot, which may be a big job.

Good Luck,

Thanks Bill;

The dummy coupler just clips in, NO lateral movement at all. Am to show a friend who is very up with it re repairs etc on Wednesday.  Richard
