That's true.  The slide switches on the Atlas Selectors are very much like (and probably patterned after) the slide switches on first and second generation EMD locomotives.
Fuel pump, generator field, cab lights, etc.

Diesel locomotives have all sorts of electrical switches to throw, mostly slide switches, rotary switches to a lesser extent, and a few push buttons for good measure.
