Hi.
Hope you might be able to advise me regarding the best DCC Encoder to put in this engine.
Engine appears to be a 1998 circa, but you might know better.
Just purchased it on line, new in the box.  DC system. Runs good on DC. Usual noise factor.
Would like to convert it to basic DCC, no sound.
Can you recommend any decoders?
I have done some prior DCC conversions on various Bachmann DC Diesel Engines.
Just looking for the best "fit" for this engine.
Thanks for any advise and help you can provide.

I believe on this loco, the motor is not isolated from the frame. You will need to do this. I would cut back the metal tabs on the motor that contact the frame and solder a wire to each one. Wrap tape around the motor to isolate it. Solder a wire to each side of both trucks for track power. I would  use an NCE  decoder # BACH-DSL. Joe

these have the tyical Bachmann split frame chassis. I have successfully converted this locomotive to dcc using the procedures in the link below:

note that the decoder used is unavailable, but similar decoders from digitrax or tcs work just as well. mine were done with digitrax dh123 decoders but any decoder whose components are covered will work just as well. if you decide to use a decoder with exposed components, be sure to provide some sort of insulating material between it and the chassis as there is not a lot of room inside of these locomotives.
