Big Hauler Sound Card Question?

I have an older style Big Hauler 4-6-0.  The sound card connects to the 9 volt battery by a brown wire and a white wire have been pulled out of their slots on the tender floor.

1. Any idea which wire (brown or white) is negative?
2. Will "magic smoke" be released if I hook up the battery with the wrong polarity?

Thanks for any help you can give me,
Bill

Hi Billbrakeman.
On my tender the positive wire is Green, negative brown.  Don't know is reversing would damage
anything.. Ed

Bill,

Reversing polarity does not cause any damage to the sound unit.  Just hook them up and insert the battery. If the sound does not work reverse the battery and all should be OK.  Just mark the inside of the battery hatch so in the future when you change the battery you get it in right the first time.

Thanks, Ed And Bill.

Bill- there  is a diagram on the bottom of the battery hatch.  I just get confused about pos & neg when the wires colors are not black and red.  Now that I know that reverse polarity will not "blow" something on the pcb I'll be okay.

Ed- I 'll follow you hint and try brown in the neg slot.
