I'm new to DCC and want to install a decoder in a pair of 4-6-0 (63" drivers if that make any difference).
Any suggestions as to manufacturer and model?
(At this point, I'm not interested in sound.)

thanks

Well, any of the "plug and play" decoders (Digitrax, NCE, TCS etc.) will work. If you're new to DCC, I would suggest using TCS (Train Control Systems) because (in my opinion anyway) their instructions for setting the CV's are much clearer than the other decoders I've used. Digitrax for example gives you a booklet with their decoders that covers a few CV's, then tells you to buy or download one of their books of instructions to do the others. TCS's booklet covers ALL the CV's and what to enter to get the effect you desire.

Mike,

I agree that TCS decoders are very good.  I have used the MC-2 with a 1" harness (also from TCS) in a Ma & Pa 4-6-0 with the smallet tender.  The harness plugs into the 8 pin plug on the Bachmann board and the decoder sits right on top.  Plenty of room.  A really easy conversion.
