are there ways to have sound on a dc setup?

I don't beleve so... My layout is powered by DCC & all my Locos have DCC & Sound... There might be a way to convert sound to DC but i dont know of any way off hand...

Yes. Most dcc sound locomotives are dual mode meaning they will have sound in DC also, but are limited sounds .Some will ring the bell and blow the horn if programmed to do so if the factory defaults are set up this way .Otherwise you would need to get someone that has dcc to program it for you.

In the case of the new USRA Mike, you crank the DC throttle up slowly.  At about 5-6 volts the bell will sound and the whistle gives a couple of toots as the engine begins to move.  After that, all you get is the chuff sounds as it heads down the track.

Yes. But you will not be able to play the different sounds individually. They will sound as per a preset pattern based on the DC voltage.
