Weighting Locomotives Traction vs. Wear

many Bachmann diesels use a unique method of mounting the trucks  so that the pivot point is actually over top of the worm gear. other manufacturers use a pivot point similar to a prototype diesel, with the chassis resting on the trucks and the pivot point is where the two come in contact. the higher mounting point on the Bachmann units gives them the ability to sway. since a typical Bachmann spliy frame style locomotive uses metal tabs on the trucks that rub the bottom of the frame halves to conduct electricity, the combination of the sway and the banking of a superelevated curve can cause the tabs to lose contact with the chassis.

as an analogy of the two styles of pivot points, picture a pendulum (Bachmann) versus a teeter totter (atlas. athearn, etc)

Looks to be just the standard line 4 axle diesels still use this .The NS Heritage diesels use the same method as the GE dash 8 and the Spectrum sd45 that no longer use the hanging truck method.
