1940's flat cars

I'm modeling WW2 and wonder if flatl cars of this era had end markings. I can't fine any photos.

Looking at Kalmbach Publishing's "Freight Cars of the '40s and '50s," it would appear that flatcars did not have reporting marks on their ends. Some did have stenciling about the type of wheels used on the car, but I cannot see anything other than that in those photos.
