I am building an 11' x 13' layout. I am in the process of looking at track plans at model railroader's web site. How do you determine how much track you will need? Am I missing something in the information they provide?

Thanks,

Jim

What kind/whose brand track you plan on using?

Sounds like you need some track planning software that will generate track lists for whatever you come up with.

SCARM http://www.scarm.info/index.php is free.

RR-Track http://www.rrtrack.com/ is not.

If at first you don't succeed, throw it in the spare parts box.

if you are looking for more info on track plans from Modelrailroaders site you have to buy a subscription.
There are many track plans and software that are free on the web or go to your local hobby shop or library and pick up one of the many books available.
I use Anyrail to design my layout, the trial offer allows you to use 50 pieces for free or buy the full version for 50.00.
I have used the trial offer to mock up sections before I purchased the full version. IMO it was not worth the 50.00 as it was pretty much a one time use but it did help get me started.
Any specific plan you were looking at?

JBrock27 I am planning on using Atlas code 83 track.

Then download and learn this program. It will print a materials list once you learn how. I used this software to plan my layout.
