Hi, Iam new at putting together train sets. I had a bunch of them along with race car sets when i was a kid but i grew out of them. Well iam 55 years of age now and are trying to get back into them. I have a Bachman oval train set and added another oval track inside of the original one by a crossover track. It works great. Now i seen a layout i want to try but iam having a problem with the track loosing all power when i hook up the new pieces. I have 2 switch tracks on the inside oval track and when i hook the together it kills the power. Am i shorting out the track and is there something i can do to get this track to work?

Is your layout configured in a way that allows the train(s) to reverse direction of travel?

If so, that's called a reverse loop and requires special wiring to avoid short-circuits.

Post a photo of your layout. That might help. Look in the list of forums down a ways on how to post photos here.
