Finally got to work on it.  Had to order the middle set of wheels too along with the screws.  Broke it while trying to get the broken screw out.  Anyway it works great now.  Runs like a charm.   :) Thank you both very much.  Very, very appreciative of the help you have given me. 

The reason we worked on the power problem was because the person (my brother's friend) who gave us the train to look at mentioned it.  He got the train from one of his neighbors.  I have a feeling his neighbor worked on it and messed up the alignment and didn't know how to put it back together.  He told my brother's friend that the train had a power issue and that is what started it all.  My dad and I were barking up the wrong tree.  With your help, the problem is resolved.  Few minor fixes and it is all ready to choo-choo.   :)

You are welcome and I am glad you are enjoying the successful repair!!  Adam deserves all the credit for seeing the drivers were not correctly aligned.  Good work Adam!
