Hi all,

I'm looking at getting one of the 2-4-4-2 mallets and converting it into a tank engine.  With this in mind, can someone tell me how long the locomotive itself is without the tender attached?

Thank-you for the link.  That is one of the kits I'm planning to use with the locomotive.

But that still doesn't answer my original question.  Can you please tell me the length of the locomotive alone, without the tender?  I need to know if it'll fit on my turntable.

7.5 inch.
And for the rest of the world 190mm.
BTW I did a scratch build T conversion on a 2-6-6-2.
I used the Uintah 2-6-6-2 t as a guide.
Don't forget the coal bunker on the back.
It is not included in the  BW conversion kit.

Thanks, that's exactly the information I was after.

As for the bunker, I'll most likely be 3D printing a new cab.

3D printing is very nice but it takes away the fun of constructing something.
I bought a cutting plotter a few weeks ago.
So i can draw my own plans, cut them and the glue them together.

There's still some assembly required with 3D printing.  When I was doing my 2-6-0 to 2-6-2T conversion, I found I got the best results if the cab was printed as a 'flat pack', so to speak.  I ended up printing my own kit.  There's also the challenge of designing it to fit the existing model.

Nice workmanship there. Gives me an idea for my 2-6-6-2.; oil-fired though.
