I have given up applying decals to buildings, etc.  Does anyone know of a source to buy peel and stick building signs, etc.?

Depending on what you are after, such signs are as close as your printer. You can grab signs from the internet, open them in any number of graphics programs from PAINT to PhotoShop to GIMP (it's free). Tweak or don't tweak the signs as you see fit, and then print them on plain or photo paper - again, your choice. You can glue these to your structures with thinned white glue, a glue stick, or any of a score or more adhesives.

If I may ask, what sort of problems are you running into with water-slide decals?

Good advice!  I'll see what I can do.

My decal problem - first, because I have a bit of a tremor so I shredded them.  Then I got my daughter to put them on and they looked good.  Then brushed on micro-sol per directions and it still looked good.  However, when the micro-sol dried, the decal peeled off.

You can buy blank self sticking sheets for a printer.
The only problem with stickers is the thickness.
For my scale , 0n30, it's expectable but for H0 it will always look like a sticker.

These folks have full sheet clear and white matte finish 'peel and stick' labels that might work.

The matte clear is here: https://www.onlinelabels.com/products/ol175cj.htm

and the matte white here: https://www.onlinelabels.com/products/ol175wr.htm

If you want to 'try before you buty', a free sample of each can be requested here: https://www.onlinelabels.com/General/SamplesSelectItems.aspx

If at first you don't succeed, throw it in the spare parts box.
