So I got a the Home for the Holidays set for Christmas last year and the valve gear on the Mogul engine that came with it was broken. My father ordered a new part for it but when he tried to disassemble it in an effort to put it in he found that the chassis was super glued to the loco shell and is afraid if he tried to take it off he'll only break it more, I found the same problem.

I need someone to tell me the proper way to disassemble it so I can put the new valve gear in to make it work because I know this particular set is no longer in production so I won't be able to get another one. The locomotive's breakdown sheet might tell us how everything goes together but the fact that the chassis and motor are glued to the body is not how this should go. The locomotive shouldn't be this hard to take apart. I'm going to need the proper guidance for this, if I cannot fix it I will have to return my entire set.

I tried posting some photos that would help, but I got a folder full message. Harold Minty's site explains the procedure.

I will try to get the photos uploaded. The hard part is prying outward and upward the vertical front boiler plate over the chassis tab. The shell must also be pried up over the rear tab first. You have to get behind the vertical plate and pry out and up.

I had my father take it back to the hobby store where he got my set and they fixed it already and they did it for free too. Still this could be useful information, I would like to know how they did it.

This is the specific page on Harold Minky's site that refers to disassembly -

Feel like a Mogul.

Oh well that looks like helpful information. Thanks.
