4-4-0 & Tender

Just replaced the shaft and the drive gear on this HO steam Loco American 4-4-0 & Tender PRR.  When I set it on the track and power it up, nothing happens.  When I pick the loco up and clear of the track,the tender picks up and  drives the loco(all wheels turn), but then I set the loco on the track and it quits.  Any suggestions??

Yes.

When you re-assembled, there's a very good chance one or both tender trucks got turned around backwards.  Polarity is everything.

Also, if I recollect, the lead truck on the locomotive picks up power from the track... perhaps to light the headlight.  Been a while since I tinkered with mine.

Did you take the wheels out of the tender trucks?  Somehow the loco and the tender are fighting each other, electrically speaking.

If you do not get my meaning... let me know.  I may be able to take a picture of the underframe of mine, so you'll see how the wheels are suppose to be aligned.
