What is the Connie equivalent to, C-16, C-21, some other classification?

  Over on mylargescale.com about a year ago, we did some calculations and came up with a tractive effort somewhere just above 22,000 lbs. This was using the prototype's info and modifying it to a 3' gauge engine (the prototype is 30" gauge) so some of this is just an educated guess. The D&RGW listed their engines by tractive effort with the letter prefix indicating the wheel arrangement. In this case the Bachmann Connie would have been listed as a C-22.

The closest the Bachmann consolidation comes to a DRG&W engine is the class C-21. The Bachmann engine is much more modern than the actual C-21.

One version is lettered for the Silverton, Gladstone and Northern and it is much closer. All DRG&W locomotives and the SG&N had longer smokeboxes as they burned coal.  The C&S fans should be interested in one outside fram consoladation that was leased from the Balck Hills line and run over most of the C&S  narrow gauge. The cab was much different.  All Colorado Consolidations had Stephenson valve gear

Also recognize that the Connie was a Baldwin Export locomotive.  This same superstructure was available in many gauges from 24" to 42".  Few remained or returned to the US.  So, the prototype as Steve points out, was in fact the prototype by default, the original was Cuban and after overhaul exploded killing the fireman......no more prototype.
