Hello Gang,

Will a 22 curve fit on a 4x8 layout? What are the pros and cons to the 22 curves. My big steam keeps falling off the track so I am cosidering repacing my 18 with 22. How does this affect a layout overall?

Thanks for the input.

Wider Radius, somewhat visually better, tracks better. Shortens lengths of straight track on 4x8 by 8"

My layout is currently 4 X 8, I started with 18" in the center, tnen added another loop on the outside.  Since I only run smaller locos and cars, I made the outer tracks 18" also, but you could use 22".  Crossovers  and run arounds gives access to the yard.  It requires  46" width for the 22", leaving you about an inch to spare.  I put a railing around the layout just in case.

Check out my thread if you want. Scroll down to see the layouts.

Always go to the widest radius possible.  A 22 inch radius will fit on a 4x8.
