I have noticed two Williams variations on 15" streamlined cars:

1.  Couplers:

a.  Early cars have "thumbtack" couplers.

b.  Recent ones have a more Postwar type of coupler arm.

2.  TEXAS SPECIAL paint:

a.  Early ones have paint like the MKT/SL-SF cars:  mostly red.  Coupler:  Thumbtack

b.  Later ones are silver with 2 red strips of red:  Mostly silver.  Coupler:  PW.

Questions:

When did J. Williams:

1.  Change the coupling system?

2.  Change paint on the TEXAS SPECIAL?

Thanks!

Hi Dominic,

Re. The trucks.  Early versions were fixed couplers.  Then we had the Postwar style (made in Korea)  circa mid 1980's, then we had the thumbtack style 1990's to approx 2004, and about 4 years ago we redesigned it to the postwar style again.

We did not change the paint for the Texas Special.  We had two versions.  The mostly silver version was a Golden Memories Series version.
