Compatible locomotive

My grandson has a Life-Like Train set by Wm. K. Walthers, Inc called HO Rail Runner with Power-Loc. Item # 433-8635 (train set). Little brother broke locomotive which is black and yellow, and has Santa Fe on the side, #GP38-2. Nothing on the instructions, etc, states it is a Bachmann product so was wondering if you knew if a Bachmann locomotive would work with the grandson's train set. Bachmann is the only company I have been able to find that list the #GP38-2.
