Allrighty then,  this is a test to see if I got the system down, now.  I resized this image to "320" wide.  Can you see it?  If so, this is an old Roundhouse kit #1427 B&O Rectangular 20' ore car.  I fell in love with it the minute I saw it on an LHS shelf... abandoned and alone.  I rescued it, and now I'm on a never ending quest to find its identical bretheren and sistern.

It looks great behind my connies, 44-tonner, and H16-44.  The weathering is all dry-brush.  I think the greenish tint is the reflection off the ground foam onto the car.  I'm a lousy photographer, but will get better.

Regards,  Jonathan
I just bought a set of 12 of these. They are GN cars produced by Walthers in their Gold line.

Just scored 5 Roundhouse Ore Cars for $6 a piece.  They came with Intermountain wheelsets, kadee's, and loads.  I weathered 'em a bit.  Looks like B&O is truly rare.  So far I have 1 B&O and 11 B&LE.  Oh well, I like these, too.  Now all I need is a bunch of brakewheels... seems Roundhouse forgot to put them in the kits.  Where's that box of old, broken rolling stock...

Most B&O Cars roundhouse put out before horizon took em over are hard to find. I found three, 1 i was looking for a while, and the other two i didnt know exsisted!

Got that one via ebay, its the one i been looking for but only seen them on ebay for $20 each, got that one for $12 plus shipping i think

thats one i didnt know exsisted until i saw it on ebay one night. i forget how much i paid for it but it was only about $8 or $9

SAw that one at a train show in the MD area, picked it up with no hesitation. was $3

Heres two rare Passenger cars by Roundhouse, I picked these up today at the train show.

(I know i'm a B&O Fan, but i couldnt resist that one, the paint scheme was just to eye catching

I know its the wrong color scheme, i got a baggage and 2 coaches (Rivarossi cars) that i painted up in the correct colors

Side note:
Heres another car i picked up at the train show. a Athearn blue box kit, but i think it was made for a specfic company, anyone ever see it before?

also about those B&O Ore Cars, i've seen a bunch of B&O ones at the GSMTS at Timonium Fair Grounds in Maryland(happens 4 times a year, Met the bach-man there twice, great guy to talk to!) weather or not they were the roundhouse ones i donno as they were unboxed.

I don't get out to the Timonium show, but I do make it to the one at the EXPO center (Chantilly) twice a year... once in a while Fredericksburg.  Last time one of the vendors told me he had a dozen of the B&O ore cars (Roundhouse), and a fellow came in 5 minutes before me and bought every one of them.  Was that you?

Those are cool cars you acquired.  Congrats, the most fun about this hobby is finding that rare "treasure".  The great part is we all have a different idea about what "treasure" is.  Theoretically, that makes more treasure for all of us.  AAAARRRRRGH.

I have a few more OT roundhouse Box Cars in V&T, PRR, Tonopah & Tidewater, Northern Pacific, Colorado Midland, Sioux City Pacific, Maryland & Pennsylvania. I also have a Custom made B&O Fruit car using an IHC box car. Got tha ton ebay, didnt know it was custom made until i got it, great job the guy did on it.(The seller didnt know it was custom made eather!)

I don't, and I'm hesitant to publish my email address on a public forum.  I understand the 'sending a personal message' feature doesn't work on this forum.  Perhaps you have an idea.    My best Roundhouse stuff is this set of SHAY commemorative cars... OT box car to 36' passenger cars and a matching caboose.  Bought the set about 25 years ago I'm guessing.  I just put metal wheelsets and knuckle couplers on them... really I'm putting the last wheels on as I type this.

BTW I notice on your "collection" website, you have the royal blue 4-4-0.  There's one at my LHS and I've been holding off on picking it up.  How does yours run?  Did you make extra wipers out of centering springs (saw this on line somewhere)?

Runs great. I havent had any problems with it. well i have one, i have three sets of coaches for it.....Mantua's OT B&O Coaches, and both roundhouse Overtons and Overlands....haha.

by the way AIM is 100% free and can be download at www.aim.com its great for talkin to people.

Try some of these ones. I have a string of these servicing the mines on my layout.

Bear,

Do these kits come with metal wheels and knuckle couplers?

Thanks-

OkieRick,
It appears so. If not, it's easy to find them, but a pain to have to go and get. :)

Rick....

The cars come with plastic wheels. Each car's truck is comprised of 16 seperate pieces, only 2 of which are wheels sets ( 1 pair of wheels on an axle). Assembling the other 14 pieces into a frame that will accept the wheel sets is a whole other challenge....lol.

The kits come with metal truss rods and grab irons, and are made to accept a KD #5 or equivalent coupler.....which you must supply.

Tichy supplies superb instructions along with paint and weathering tips. The engraved detail on the various parts is outstanding....but....these are not for the faint hearted modeler.

Thank you all. That's what I need to know.
