What is the difference between DCC Equipped and DCC Ready?

usually ddc equipped means a decoder in the loco. dcc ready usually means the loco is ready for a decoder.
there are variations in both definitions. some dcc ready have a connector for the decoder . some do not. you have to hardwire the decoder. some are plug and play. some are not.
some have a 9 connector. some have a 8 pin connector.
dcc with sound is a whole new game.
