Recently acquired an old 60's-70's? 0-6-0 with a very brittle and crumbling gear cover. Basically was warped and when I took the two screws out it broke into 5 or 6 pieces. Marked Santa Fe road number 4. Gear cover marked Bachmann Hong Kong. Haven't a clue what this loco is called. Can I run it without the cover or is there someone with one somewhere? Couldn't find tender in box of goodies either :( Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It is likely not from any earlier than the mid-70's.

need a bit more clarification, are you speaking of the rectangular bottom plate that holds the drivers in as well or a half moon piece that only covers the main gear on the driver axle.
I'm assuming the the latter as the wheels and axles would come out of their slots without the former.

Dear Cheefs,
Give service a call. The current cover plate might fit.
Have fun!
