Just getting started with new Bachmann DCC set. The DCC controllers have no accessory power outlet. I'm assuming that the only way to get power to accessories like turnouts is to purchase a DC controller. Correct? or is there another way

Any power supply that will give you around 15 to 18 volts AC at around an amp would be okay.  You can use DC for switch machines, but AC seems to give peppier performance.  If you have an old HO or N power pack, that would be great.  Use the AC terminals.  You could also buy an inexpensive pack at your LHS, try an electronics store, or look for a used power pack on eBay.

If your loco is too heavy to lift, you'd better be able to ride in, on or behind it.
