is it possible to put one of the couplers for the Thomas line on a track cleaning car so I could have one of those engines pull this car or should I just get a regular engine with that type of coupler
I do it all for the love of my son Cameron

How about a regular coupler on one end of the track cleaner car and a Thomas type coupler on the other?  That way, Thomas could pull it when he is not busy and a regular engine could pull it when he is.

Growing older is mandatory but growing up is optional.

Yes, but you'll have to do some fiddling since the two types of couplers attach differently.  Probably your route of least resistance is to put a knuckle coupler on one end of a Thomas car.  Kadee just happens to make a coupler with an NEM (European standard) mounting that should drop right in.  If Thomas has a front coupler, you could replace one of his.  The shank comes in four lengths, numbers 17-20 (short - very long).  Hope this helps
