Ez track wye

Just got an ez track wye. Install seemed straightforward but it seems that to snap in straight ez track part of roadbed must be cut away otherwise overlapping occurs. Or am I missing something basic here?

There are embossed lines on the underside of the roadbed which show where to
remove material so the adjacent track will mate up.
