Hi Can anybody tell me how to test a decoder and reset it.
Basic Lenz decoder put in the Bachmann Loco's.
I am not sure if it works. Don't want to test it in a Loco as it might burn out the motor. If it does work i want to reset it back to #3 as i cannot remember the address i had assigned it earlier. Thanks.

Resetting CV#8 to a value of 8 will reset the decoder to factory specs.

Unless you do something to prevent the motor from turning when power is applied, there is no danger of burning out the motor while testing the decoder.  There is, however, a real danger of burning up the decoder if you wire it into the locomotive incorrectly.

You can make a simple decoder tester with a small 12 volt motor and a handful of 12 volt grain-of-wheat bulbs.  Connect the motor to the orange and grey decoder wires.  Connect one wire from each bulb to the blue wire.  Connect each of the other bulb wires to a different function output.  Then connect the red and black decoder wires to your command station.
